Learn Filipino Online23 October 2007The first internet-based guide to learning the Filipino language can now be accessed at www.learnfilipino.ph. For a US$20 fee, children of overseas Filipinos and non-Filipinos can now learn about the national language and familiarize themselves with the Filipino culture at the convenience of their homes by just enrolling and logging onto the website. Launched by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the activities for the Month of Overseas Filipinos on 07 December 2006, and developed by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, the Learn Filipino Program website consists of modules intended for younger generations of overseas Filipinos and non-Filipinos who are interested to learn the national language. Lessons within the module are culture-based, meant to pave the way for a better understanding of the Philippines and its people. The lessons include lists of vocabulary words, useful phrases, audio guides, and culture features providing interesting facts on the different Filipino customs and traditions, folktales, games, and cuisine, among others. Here’s how to enroll in the program:
The student clicks the “Register Now” button in the middle left part of the Learn Filipino Program website homepage. This links the student to a page where he/she is required to provide his/her name and e-mail address. The e-mail address serves as the student’s username.
To log in to his/her account, the student types his/her username and password provided by the system at the designated fields found at the lower left portion of the homepage. Upon logging-in, the student is required to provide his/her biographical information, including his/her photograph.
The student pays a US$20 registration fee per module by clicking the “Pay Now” button found at the lower part of the student’s profile page. He/She may pay online using Paypal or credit card. Upon confirmation of payment, the student starts the lessons and sessions in the module.
