The Philippine Consulate General held a Filipino Community Meeting on 29
April 2012 at the Consulate premises to provide updates on the preparations
for the Independence Day celebration on Sunday, 10 June 2012, 8:30 a.m. to 6
p.m., at Chater Garden and Chater Road. The Philippine Association of Hong
Kong (PAHK) presented the program
(see attached link for more details).
The theme of the celebration is Tayo na, Magkaisa at Magsaya. The Filipino
community is invited to participate in the following ways (choose only
one):
Participation in the Tayo na, Kain na! Parade.
Participation in Pagilasan sa Kundiman at Balagtasan; and
Participation in cultural/traditional dance.

| Filipino associations can present any food delicacy from
the Philippines. |
Kundiman |
| Only replicas of food can be utilized (NO REAL FOOD). |
There will be 3 contestants. |
| There will be 20-100 members per contingent. |
Contestants will be given 2 to 3 minutes to perform. |
| To avoid duplication, interested associations can submit
their theme on a first-come, first-served basis at the Cultural
Section by 13 May 2012. |
Contestants can perform solo, as a duo, or as a group
(maximum of 5 members). |
| Parade participants should have their own choreography. |
Contestants should be in Filipiniana costume. |
| A maximum of 10 members can perform onstage for 2 minutes. |
Balagtasan |
| Each group is required to utilize 4-foot-long bamboo poles
with vertical flags measuring 36 inches (L) by 12 inches (W)
using the colors of the Philippine flag (blue, red, white, and
yellow). |
There will be two teams of two members each. |

The teams will debate on the topic given, with one team
on the affirmative side and the other on the negative side. |

Each team member will be given 1 minute to debate, with the
team captains given 1 minute each to close their arguments. |

For groups who wish to join the cultural/traditional folk dance part of the
program, there will be an initial screening on Sunday, 20 May 2012 at the
PCG premises to determine the five groups who will perform. Please wear
your costumes.
Filipino associations are also encouraged to sign up for regional booths
showcasing the products and destinations of the 17 different regions of
the Philippines.
Groups that are not selected to perform in the Kundiman, Balagtasan,
cultural/traditional dance, and regional booths are welcome to join the
Parade.
