PCG Remits HK$18,875 to PNC for Typhoon Victims
03 February 2005
The Philippine
Consulate General has concluded its donation campaign to provide relief
and rehabilitation needs for the victims of four typhoons late last year
in the Philippines with the transfer of HK$18,875 to the Philippine
National Red Cross (PNRC).
In a letter to
the Consulate, Sen. Richard Gordon, Chairman of the PNRC Board of
Governors, said the donation of the Filipino community in Hong Kong “will
further ensure an effective and efficient disaster response in the future
as we shall allocate funds to enhance capabilities of (PNRC) chapters in
responding to disasters”.
The Consulate
gave recognition to the generosity of the Filipino community in Hong Kong
for responding immediately to the call for relief for the typhoon victims
and rehabilitation for typhoon-ravaged areas in Quezon and Aurora
provinces.
The Consulate
also reiterated the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s earlier
advisory that the importation of used clothing is a violation of RA No.
4653. DSWD Department Order No. 28, series of 1999, signed by then
Vice-President and DSWD Secretary Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Memorandum
Circular No. 1, series of 2002, also reiterate the policy on the
prohibition of donation or importation of used clothing. Donations in kind
(e.g. canned goods, medical supplies, etc.) other than used clothing are
encouraged provided that they are non-perishable during the period of
transit to the consignee.
