9 Teams Enter Palaro ng Konsulado Basketball Tournament

The Philippine Consulate General wishes to inform the Filipino Community in Hong Kong that it is all set for the opening of the basketball tournament of the Palaro ng Konsulado sa HK 2005 on 3 April, 9 a.m, at the Lockhart Road Playground, Wanchai.

The tournament features the best Filipino basketball teams in Hong Kong with the participation of powerhouses Boracay Fresh and Solid First. The other competing teams are: Budget Finance, Kabalen, Lahing Kayumanggi, MIGA, Pards Hoops, Takusa and the PCG Blue Boyz. Games will be held every Sunday at Lockhart.

"We promise a memorable tournament," said Solid First coach Eddie Boy dela Cruz. "This is the first time that all major basketball organizing groups are entered in one tournament."

The PCG Blue Boyz, playing in a major tournament for the first time, are practicing hard, said team captain Allan Fernandez, who is also the head of the PCG's passport section. The team is being reinforced by popular DJs Stan, Mel and EJ of Good Evening Kabayan (GEK) radio program.

The tournament committee will be headed by Dominador Andrada Jr., who will also act as Commissioner. He will be assisted by Wigmore Capiendo (vice chairman), Ruben Biascan (member) and Juver Lopez (member).

The tournament, co-organized by the PCG and the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood,Inc. and sponsored by PLDT Hong Kong Ltd., plans to assemble a Philippine All-Star Team after the tournament. The All-Star team will play exhibition games against select Hong Kong teams.

A sidelight of the opening ceremonies will be a cheering competition, featuring the League of Overseas Filipino Midwives, the National Organization of Professional Teachers-HK, MIGA, Villasinians and Lahing Kayumanggi.
