Philippine Government Continues to Suspend Deployment of New Domestic Helpers to Hong Kong

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the government agency
which regulates the deployment of Filipino workers extended the temporary
suspension in the processing of new employment contracts for Hong Kong SAR
until further notice.
Filipino workers who are already in Hong Kong and have finished their
employment contracts are allowed to renew their contracts or transfer to
new employers.
The memorandum also provides that workers who have valid exit clearance
such as the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) or the e-Receipt shall
be allowed to depart for Hong Kong.
Vacationing workers who are returning to Hong Kong SAR shall be issued
with e-Receipts at the POEA Main Office or OEC in other POEA Regional
Centers/Units/Satellite Offices.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure against SARS infection, the
Philippine Consulate General adopted a new work schedule to regulate the
flow of clients within its premises. Under the revised work schedule which
took effect on 28 April 2003, the Consulate adjusted its office hours to
0800-1600 H from Monday to Friday.
Only contracts for renewal and OECs will be processed from 8:00 a.m.
to11:00 a.m. Similarly, afternoon hours of 1200 – 1500 H will be reserved
exclusively for agency contracts for local hiring, agency accreditation
and releasing of contracts. All other consular services are available
during these office hours.
