Twelve Teams Join Palaro Ng Konsulado Women's
Volleyball Tournament

31 May 2005. Hong Kong. A dozen
powerful teams composed of Filipinos in Hong Kong joined the women's
volleyball tournament which formally opened on 01 May 2005 at the Bayanihan Centre, Kennedy Town.
Organized by the Consulate in
cooperation with the National Organization of Professional Teachers-HK
Chapter and HK Bayanihan Trust, the games are held every Sunday from 9:30
am to 5:30 pm at the Bayanihan Sports Ground.
The participating teams are
Airwaves, Bayanihan, Bohol Assn., Corpsun, D'Uragons, GSK, IESO, Magic
Friends, Notty, D'Hitz, Raiders and St. Teresa.
As of 22 May 2005, Magic
Friends and D'Uragons lead the team standings with 4-0 (win-loss),
Airwaves and Corpsun with (3-1), Bayanihan and Raiders (2-1), IESO and
D'Hitz (1-2), St. Teresa (1-3), Bohol and Notty (0-3), and GSK (0-4).
The "Palaro" is a series of
sports events in HK which aim to attract and gather Filipinos in HK to
actively engage in sports and related activities, as well as to foster
closer and harmonious relations. The sponsors include PLDT (HK) Ltd.,
Jibsen Trading Co. LTD., Ms. Mariam Fiaz, Mr. Edwin Poon and Mr. Joel
Almeda.
The tournament committee is
composed of the following: Mr. Remegio Ricasas (chairman), Ms. Marissa
Bangay (NOPT-HK), vice chairman, Ms. Jane Cano (NOPT-HK), Ms. Marilyn
Apresto (NOPT-HK), members, and Mrs. A. Aguilar (PCG), adviser.
As the games will run for three
months, the Consulate invites all Pinoy sports and health fanatics and
enthusiasts in HK to go to Bayanihan Centre to witness the games and cheer
for your favorite teams.
