Philippines' Bugsay Boracay Wins Gold Medal in Stanley Circus Capital Dragon Boat Championship

02 June 2006 – The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Philippine’s Bugsay Boracay team, consisting of 47 dragon boat paddlers from Boracay, won the gold medal in the Men's and Mixed Team (expat category) and the bronze medal for the Ladies Championship  in the Circus Capital Stanley Dragon Boat Championship held on 31 May 2006 at Stanley, Hong Kong.  

Consul General Alejandrino A. Vicente said Bugsay Boracay topped 180 competing teams from Hong Kong and other parts of the world. 

The Bugsay Boracay team is scheduled to join the Shatin International Dragon Boat Race on 3-4 June 2006.     It is also expected to race in Shanghai in September and in the US by next year.

Consul General Vicente congratulated the Philippine dragon boat team at a lunch he hosted  for the organizers, captains and members of the team.

The members of the Bugsay Boracay are returning to Manila on 05 June 2006 and plan to use their victory and experience in the Hong Kong dragon boat contest to organize a similar event in Boracay next year.

Consul General Vicente encouraged the Filipino community and media in Hong Kong to show their support for the team by watching the event and giving moral support to the Filipino dragon boat racers.
