Independence Day

MESSAGE
Migrant Workers Day on
June 6-7 and the 108th Philippine Independence on June 12 are two
events that underscore our collective dream of a strong and prosperous
nation that lives in the fountain of brave and enterprising
Filipinos all over the world.
In particular, Migrant Workers
Day celebrates the substantial economic contributions to the Philippine
economy of millions of OFWs and Filipino migrant abroad. They toil and
endure for their loved ones - to support the education of children, the
construction of homes, even as they drive thriving business enterprises
that propel the economy. These contributions bolster our efforts to
achieve national growth and development, and competitiveness in the world.
Our OFWs and other Filipino
migrants, and all our workers for that matter, exemplify the valor of our
heroes who fought for our independence and freedom 108 years ago. Our
heroes sacrificed their lives to free us from colonial oppression and
exploitation, while our workers devote their sweat and toil to overcome
poverty - our foremost challenge today.
In behalf of the Philippine
government, allow me to express anew my infinite gratitude to our
kababayans abroad, and thank them for their great deeds and
contributions to our common cause of peace, solidarity and shared
prosperity.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang mga Manggagawang Piliipino!
