2005 Concert At The Park Honors Filipino Musicians

You are all invited to the 2005
Concert at the Park Goes to the HKCC Piazza which will be held on 20
November 2005, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the HK Cultural Centre Piazza,
Kowloon. The free concert is co-organized by the Leisure and Cultural
Services Department of Hong Kong and the Philippine Consulate General in
cooperation with the Filipino Musicians in Hong Kong.
This year’s concert involves
the participation of the Filipino Musicians in Hong Kong with Mr. Nicki
Flores, Dodie Marcelo, Alex Canda, Armando Manlangit and Jun Santiago
composing the core group.
The Concert in the Park is a
manifestation of the HK government’s high regard for the artistry of
Filipino musicians in HK. For 2005, a tribute to the achievements of
Filipino musicians in Hong Kong for the last 60 years will be featured by
way of a musical presentation and photo exhibit from the 1940’s to the
present that will recount their experiences in Hong Kong.
The Pinoy Music Provider will
kick off the concert with popular tunes from the 1940s to the 1960s.
Performing with the big band are famous jazz singer Ms. Lita Carillo,
pianist Mr. Bading Tuason and trumpet player Mr. Berry Yaneza.
The all-male Akostika band
which performs at Chaser’s and at Holiday Inn Golden Mile on Sundays, will
play songs from the 70’s. Popular tunes
from the 1980’s to the year 2000’s will be performed by Alex Canda and the
Websight Band while the father and son tandem of Filemon Corpus, who still
plays violin at the age of 82 and his son, Ernie, a pianist, will play
love songs from the 1980’s.
The Absolute 5 band and the Kabihog Band will
continue playing songs from the 80’s while the Top Notch band will sing
songs from the 1990’s. These bands perform
nightly at the New
Era Hotel and at
Stanford
Hotel,
Kowloon, respectively.
Alex Ahongon and his Miga International Band will conclude the concert by
singing current hit songs and all original Pinoy music (OPM).
The
popular DJs of Good Evening Kabayan, Stan Yumang, Mel Lirio, Jr., and EJ
Emata, will be the program hosts during the event.
