OFWs to take first PEPT in HK in December

07 November 2005

A total of 189 overseas Filipino workers will take the first Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to be held in Hong Kong on 4 December 2005.

PEPT is a special form of educational assistance instituted by the Department of Education, which gives recognition to the value and potential of learning gained outside of the formal school system.

This program enables OFWs to upgrade their academic level (elementary or secondary) for re-entry into formal school, job entry, job promotion and also self-fulfillment.

To prepare for the examinations, volunteer teachers from the National Organization of Professional Teachers-HK chapter (NOPT-HK) conducted review classes in Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino and Social Studies at the Bayanihan Centre in Kennedy Town.

The first PEPT in Hong Kong will be conducted by the National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC), Department of Education (DepEd), in cooperation with the Consulate, Hong Kong Bayanihan Trust, NOPT-HK, Defending Family Values Foundation, Inc., and First Metro International Investment Co. Ltd.
