PHILIPPINE CHRISTMAS IN HONG KONG 2004

Starting 16 December 2004 until 04 January 2005, Chater Garden will be host to 39 lighted capiz
shell lanterns from the Philippines. The Christmas Capiz Shell Lantern Display, supported by HK's
Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and various sponsors, will be launched by the
Consulate as part of the Philippine Christmas in Hong Kong 2004 project.

A simple ceremony, to be attended by PCG and LCSD officials, lantern sponsors and other guests, will be held at the
Chater Garden on 16 December to mark the start of the lantern display. The Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr. Patrick Ho, has
accepted the Consulate's invitation to be the Guest of Honor during the Opening Ceremony. The lanterns will serve as the
Filipino community's gift to the HK people this holiday season.
The Consulate is supporting the HK Winter Fest organized by the HK Tourism Board by presenting Christmas Caroling groups on
19 and 26 December at the White Chapel, Santa Town, South Staue Square, Central. On 19 December, Mr. Nicki Flores and the
K4 Band, NOPT Choir and the Bukas Palad Music Ministry (a professional choral group from Manila) will sing at the Statue
Square starting at 5:30 p.m. On 26 December, the following HK-based Filipino choral groups will perform at the same venue
starting at 6:00 pm: Bayanihan Choral Group, St., Jude Filipino Catholic Group Choir, Holy Trinity Choir, Church of the
Holy Name Choir, Diocesan Pastoral Centre for Filipinos Sunday Group Choir, and St. Teresa's Filipino Catholic Community Choir.
All Filipinos in Hong Kong are encouraged to watch and listen to the rendition of various Christmas carols by the participating choral
groups and enjoy the blinking and dancing lights of the lanterns at Chater Garden from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight for the
duration of the display.
