Lecture Series On The Life of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

The Consulate General is sponsoring a lecture series entitled "The Hidden Struggle of Jose Rizal: A Journey into His Inner Conflicts" to be held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Consulate General for five (5) consecutive Mondays starting 12 August 2002, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

The lecturer, Fr. Javier de Pedro, Ph.D., J.C.D., is a scholar of Philippine history. His book on "The Spiritual Itinerary of Jose Rizal" will be published and launched in Manila towards the end of the year. This lecture series is a summary of his findings and research of 15 years, which is considered by his editors in Manila to be ground breaking and innovative. The approach involves highlighting the character of the Philippine National Hero by allowing Rizal to talk to his audience through the contents of his novels and letters as well as relating these to the historical and cultural background in which he lived.

The dates and topics of the lecture series are as follows:

12 August Family Background and Early Youth
19 August The Rizal of the "Noli"
26 August The Rizal of the "Fili"
02 September The Rizal of Hong Kong
09 September The Rizal of Dapitan: Until the End

Considering the topics' great relevance in the Philippine history in which a part of it happened in Hong Kong, the members of the Filipino community are cordially invited to attend these lecture series on the life of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our National Hero. Interested parties may wish to contact the Cultural Officer of the Consulate General, Mrs. Anjhie Aguilar at 2823-8536 for seat reservation.
