WOW Grand Fiesta SALE Preludes Visit Philippines 2003

The biggest sale ever to hit the country dubbed as the "WOW Philippines Grand Fiesta Sale" will kick off on January 15-31, 2003 at selected world class shopping malls and shopping centers all over the Philippines.

A total of 60 shopping malls and over 8,000 retail establishments nationwide are set to provide the biggest discounts ever of up to 80% on a wide array of shopping merchandise to foreign and local shoppers for two whole weeks.

A joint initiative of the Department of Tourism (DOT) through its marketing arm, the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation (PCVC) in cooperation with the Philippine Retailers Association, the WOW Philippines Grand Fiesta Sale shall serve as the opening salvo for the "Visit Philippines 2003" and is expected to attract both foreign and local tourists in the country.

Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon said the project is a major activity that will directly contribute to our goal of positioning the Philippines as "Asia's Shopping Capital" and shall measure our standing image as the most inexpensive luxury shopping destination in Asia.

To make the 15-day event more fun and exciting, fashion shows, cultural events, plays, concerts, and trade exhibits will be staged in various malls to showcase the best products the country has to offer to local and foreign tourists. The various malls shall also adopt regional themes and festivals to showcase tourist destinations and thus promote domestic tourism. Raffle draws shall also be conducted by select malls to add more color and life to the grand shopping festival.

As a prime component of "Visit Philippines 2003", shopping tour programs, under its "More Than The Usual Shopping Experience" tagline, have also been created to highlight the event. In coordination with the country's top tour wholesalers and retailers, tourist shoppers through choice packages, can enjoy a VIP welcome upon arrival, city tour, special discounts and passes from selected establishments, round trip airport transfers, hotel accomodations and guided tours of the country's biggest shopping malls for as low as US$ 165.00. The program aims to tap short-haul Asian markets from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The said shopping packages are featured in DOT and PCVC websites, namely: www.wowphilippines.com.ph and www.dotpcvc.gov.ph.

Among the major shopping malls and shopping centers joining are Alabang Town Center, Ali Mall, Araneta Center, Ayala Center Cebu, Caedo Commercial Center - Batangas, Ayala Center Makati, Farmers Plaza, Fiesta World Mall, Gaisano Mall - Butuan City, Gaisano Mall - Davao, Glorietta, Greenbelt Mall, Harrison Plaza, Isetann Department Store, and many more.
